Often, a giveaway of the age of the person pontificating about the internet is when they state that something is going to happen in the future that is actually happening in the present.

And when it comes to understanding new technology, adults have always remarked that a tween has a more intuitive grasp on how it works — although a divide is now also reflected in all areas of culture, politics and society.

Recently, the battle over the Stop Online Piracy Act in the U.S. shed light on how the generation gap has widened in different ways, even as people of all ages are now living online.

So, what would be necessary to get a critical mass of the population on the same page when it comes to recognizing the advantages and limitations of how we all communicate now?
